Education for Visually Challenged Students
BRAILLE IS NOT THAT HARD TO LEARN, YOU JUST GOT TO HAVE A FEEL FOR IT.
Education is a basic necessity for any individual. For a visually challenges student, education has to be imparted through special schools for the blind. These schools are not accessible to the economically backward classes of the society. This becomes a hurdle in their overall development.
Through Braille script, a visually challenged student would be able to read and write as a normally abled student. With the availability of syllabus study material in Braille script, visually challenged students can self-study without any dependence on others. Life of a visually impaired is a challenge at every stage. Few inherent problems which a visually impaired faces are:
- Access to quality education remains out of reach
- Means of Communication of this education
- Lack of exposure and basic know-how of the world
- Proper guidance in choosing a career which showcases their capabilities
- Availability of career opportunities which provides them financial independence
- Basic mode of education followed by visually challenged students is through Braille language. With the lack of education syllabus in Braille format and absence of obstacle free environment, many students have to discontinue their education. There were times when a single book was share among complete class of students.
HOSTEL facilities
Visually challenged students who are from rural background find it difficult to continue to their education due to lack of financial support from parents, proper environment and availability of the required infrastructure such as Braille books, guidance etc.
KALAJYOTHI CHARITABLE TRUST for the Disabled took this as a challenge in helping economically backward female visually challenged students to complete their education by providing them free hostel facilities in the city of Bangalore.
The hostel is located in the heart of the city which helps the students in using public transportation and also would be safe for their commute. The hostel would provide basic infrastructure to all its inmates. With the help of volunteers, the trust provides coaching classes and guidance’s for the courses taken up by the visually challenged students. The trust also provides counseling for mentally disturbed students and brings back focus in their life.
With proper guidance and education, we feel the visually challenged students would be able to mold their future and have a better standard of living.
